Kay Bingham, BA (Hons)
Accredited Counsellor
and
EMDR Psychotherapist
(Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing)
I offer counselling and EMDR therapy in Kirkby-in-Ashfield and online, supporting adults who want to feel calmer, more confident, and connected again. Sessions are shaped around you - your pace, your story, and what you feel ready for, so you have space to understand your emotions, make sense of your experiences and build firmer foundations for your wellbeing.
I am also a Bupa-registered practitioner, reflecting my commitment to safe, ethical and high-quality care.
Why choose counselling?
Reaching out for support is a brave step, especially if you’ve been trying to manage things alone. You might be navigating something painful, feeling stuck, or simply wanting life to feel less heavy. Whatever brings you here, you don’t have to figure it out by yourself.
If you’d like some gentle reflections before starting therapy, you’re welcome to browse the Courage & Resilience section on my Reflect & Explore page.
Here are some of the concerns people often come to me with:
-
Emotional Healing: Processing difficult experiences, grieving the loss of a loved one, hurt, or a sense of feeling 'not yourself'.
-
Relationships: Feeling unheard, unappreciated, confused, or unsettled by conflict or disconnection.
-
Stress and Overwhelm: Carrying too much, feeling stretched, or trying to hold everything together.
-
Childhood and Trauma: Understanding long-standing patterns, reactions, or emotional triggers.
-
Life Transitions: Changes in health, family, work or identity.
-
Abuse and Bullying: Recovering from situations where you haven’t been treated with care or respect.
-
Perfectionism and Procrastination: Feeling never “good enough,” burnt out, or stuck between wanting to achieve and needing rest.
If something here resonates - or even if it doesn’t and you’re not sure what you need yet, you’re welcome to reach out for an initial conversation.
You're not alone in these feelings, and seeking support is a powerful choice. Together, we can explore your unique journey and work towards positive change. If you’re curious about taking a small step toward feeling better, you can explore calming reflections and supportive videos on my Reflect & Explore page.
What is counselling like with me? (and what makes it different)
People often say they feel safe, unjudged and understood in sessions with me - even when sharing things they’ve never voiced before. I don’t rush you, and I don’t push you. Instead, we take things at a pace that feels manageable, even when life feels anything but.
I’m not here to analyse every word you say or perform a particular kind of therapy “style.” What I offer is a steady, grounded, human relationship where you can:
-
talk honestly without worrying how it sounds
-
make sense of feelings that have felt confusing or overwhelming
-
explore patterns gently, without pressure
-
learn to recognise your needs and boundaries
-
notice changes in yourself over time
-
build tools and insights that support your life outside of the room
Some sessions feel deep and reflective; others are practical. Sometimes we slow things right down; sometimes you might want resources or guidance you can use between sessions. We adapt together, so it feels supportive rather than overwhelming.
My aim isn’t to rush you toward change, but to help you create meaningful, lasting shifts in how you relate to yourself and your life.
How can counselling help?
Counselling offers a dedicated, confidential space that is just for you, somewhere to pause, reflect, understand and breathe.
It can help you:
-
untangle emotions that feel heavy or confusing
-
recognise what you truly need
-
improve how you relate to yourself and others
-
understand why you may respond the way you do
-
grow confidence, clarity and self-trust
-
move through difficult moments with more steadiness
Some people come during a crisis; others come because they don’t want things to reach breaking point. Both are valid. Counselling isn’t a last resort, it’s an investment in your wellbeing, your future, and your sense of self.
